What is recycling and example?

The basic stages of recycling are the collection of waste materials, processing or manufacturing them into new products and the purchase of those products, which can then be recycled. Typical materials that are recycled include scrap iron and steel, aluminum cans, glass bottles, paper, wood, and plastics. Although no one knows for sure, since plastics haven't been around long enough, it's thought that plastics can take more than 500 years to break down. Read more about plastic recycling here.

Ferrous metals include iron and steel; non-ferrous metals include aluminum, copper, stainless steel, brass, and lead, to name just a few. Read more about metal recycling here. ISM Waste & Recycling can recover all types of uncontaminated wood. Types of wood include wooden pallets, wooden boxes, floorboards, chipboard, fencing, plywood, furniture, etc.

It's important to remember that every municipal recycling program is different, so not all of these materials are necessarily accepted where you live. Plastics can often be confusing because there are many different types of plastics on the market and these different types cannot be mixed when recycled into new products.

The world generates 381 million tons of plastic waste a year, and since the amount of plastic waste is expected to double by 2034, recycling plastic is vital. Recycling more at home doesn't require much effort if you spend some time creating a comprehensive recycling system. Aluminum can be recycled in many different products, such as tractor trailers and car bodies, however, aluminum cans are often converted into new aluminum cans. WEEE recycling consists of recycling waste electrical and electronic equipment, that is, almost everything that works with batteries or outlets, such as computers, mobile phones and televisions.

Recycled magazines are important in the recycling process, since their high clay content is used to remove inks from paper before converting it into new paper products. Most types of plastic are recyclable and, therefore, must be recycled to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills and help prevent garbage from ending up in the oceans. With a constant demand for aluminum cans, manufacturers can once again have an aluminum can on store shelves as a new can in as little as 60 days after it has been recycled. Exposing children and young adults to the importance of recycling can help provide us all with a greener and healthier community.

According to the Wood Recyclers Association, around 5 million tons of wood waste are generated each year in the UK, but much less than half is recycled. Recycling paper is vital to ensure that environmental impact is reduced and unnecessary general waste is reduced.
